In-game Description[]

"The Rocket Launcher is the most standard way of blowing things up"

Previously an antimaterial weapon, this launcher has seen renewed use against some of Hell's tougher monstrosities.

While it can only hold one rocket at a time, a few are generally enough to take down very strong foes, and are excellent at disposing of large clusters of weaker enemies quickly. Just keep yourself out of the blast radius.

Tactical Analysis[]

In general, all launcher-type weapons including The Rocket Launcher are drastically changed in DRLA to make it more balanced and in line with other weapons. The firing rate per second has been greatly lowered across the board due to the introduction of the reload mechanic, while the blast damage is doubled, the radius stays the same.

The Rocket Launcher's performance is considered somewhat worse than it's official counterpart. It's fire rate is greatly reduced now that it is a single-shot weapon and requires reload after every shot. As such, it can no longer be use in the same way. On the other hand, the blast damage is now doubled from 128 to 256. while the blast radius stays the same at 128.

In classic Doom, the blast damage of the Rocket Launcher is matching with its blast radius (128) and the calculation for blast damage is blast damage - Distance between the victim and the epicenter of the impact. That means the DRLA Rocket Launcher can cause twice the amount of damage to enemies caught in the blast radius and can definitely exceed that of the Classic Doom even at max range.

Its base impact damage stays the same as the classic counterpart, at 20 with 8 randomized (160 at maximum roll)

It's projectile speed also stays the same at 20 in-game unit.

As with most launcher-type weapons, the Rocket Launcher deals Fire damage.

Modpack Analysis[]

Bulk - Increases impact damage by 10 per modpack, up to 60 with 4 Bulk. Not that good of an investment as The Rocket Launcher's single-shot nature greatly hurts its DPS so the final damage will still be quite low.

Power - Increases blast damage by 64 per modpack, up to 512 with 4 Power. A good upgrade since the Rocket Launcher already have doubled blast damage. Be aware that boss monsters are immuned to Blast damage so the 4 Power Rocket Launcher will still won't make for a good boss killer.

Agility - Increases projectile speed by 10 per modpack, up to 60 with 4 Agility.

Firestorm - Increases blast radius from 128 to 192 and 256 with 2 modpacks. A must for all Launcher weapons as the larger the blast radius means more potential damage ot a group of enemies, combined this modpack with enough Power modpack to ensure full blast damage on maximum range. However, the Rocket Launcher is a standard tier weapon, one would be better off hold on to this valuable modpack to use on a unique or upper-tier weapons. Larger blast damage makes the gun much more dangerous to the user as well.
