Armor is a set of equipable defense items that reduce damage taken from demons. These come in the form of body armors and boots.
Unlike the normal Doom armor mechanics, you don't automatically equip the armor when you pick it up, instead the armor is sent to your inventory, where you can activate it any time to equip it.
You can carry multiple sets of armor or boots in your inventory at a time, in addition to any you are currently wearing, and you can drop and change any of these at any moment.
Bear in mind that any non-indestructible armor suit you stop wearing will be destroyed. Boots are spared this destiny.
Defensive Capabilities[]
Being the last line of defense between the player and the hordes of demons hell throws at them, an armor's defensive stats are important to take in mind due to the variety of hazards and demons the player will encounter.
Durability[]
Durability (also known as Armor Points or Armor Integrity) is the amount of damage an armor can take before it gets destroyed.
The player can use armor bonus to repair an armor's durability.
Some armors have infinite durability, meaning they are indestructible. A small selection of body armors can become indestructible with the help of an Onyx Modpack.
All boots are indestructible.
Protection[]
Protection is a percentage modifier to damage taken. Each point of protection reduces the damage taken to health, reducing instead the armor's durability.
Protection from body armor and boots does not apply to every source of damage. Protection from body armor only applies to enemy attacks, protection from boots only applies to the damage from hazardous floors.
The Security Armor has a 10% Protection value. If the player takes 10 points of damage while wearing it, the player will only take 9 damage points to health and 1 point of damage will go instead to the armor's durability.
Resistance[]
Resistances are percentage modifiers to damage taken that only affect a specific damage type. Resistances are only applied to the player's health after Protection is calculated.
Just like protection, body armor resistance only prevents damage from enemy attacks, while boots resistance only applies to floor hazards (i.e., nukage and lava).
Resistances below 0% indicate a weakness, which will increase damage taken instead of reducing it.
The Demonic Carapace has a 50% Protection value and 25% Resistance to fire and plasma. If the player takes 80 points of fire damage while wearing it, the player will only take 40 damage points to health. However, because the armor offers resistance to fire damage, the damage points are reduced again, making the player take only 30 points of damage to health.
40 points of damage will go instead to the armor's durability, but because the Demonic Carapace is indestructible, the armor suffers no damage at all.
Attributes[]
While the main function of an armor is its ability to protect the player, some of them come with extra gimmicks to take into consideration, or abilities, making them stand out from the rest.
- Bonus ability: The player might gain A bonus effect or special ability while wearing an armor piece.
- Repairability: While most armors can be repaired, there will be some marked as irreparable, regardless if the armor is indestructible or not.
- Wearing conditions: Some armors might become unremovable after player wears it.
- Mod compatibility: Some armors can be upgraded or modified with a small selection of modpacks.
Rarity[]
Similarly to the Weapons of DoomRLA, the mod has a wide variety of armor pieces, spit into different rarities: Standard, Exotic, Superior, Assembled, Unique, Demonic, Legendary.
However, assembled armors can only be found spawning throughout the levels because modpacks can't be installed in armor pieces. There are a few exceptions to this rule:
- Some Exotic Body Armors can be outfitted with an Onyx Modpack.
- Some Assembled Boots and Body Armors can be modified with an Armor Modpack.
Armor Sets[]
Some armors can be worn together to form an Armor Set Bonus. If you collect and wear all the pieces of a set, you can expect a bonus attribute to be applied to you. This bonus ranges from powering up certain weapons, to giving you strange defensive abilities.
Some armors come with an inbuilt special ability you can activate. Some of these abilities will require ammo, others will require the player to wear an armor set, or may have cooldowns.
Due to the nature of the game, it's almost impossible to get both pieces of a set, however, opening Supply Crates while wearing one piece of a set has a decent chance of having the other missing piece of the set in it.
